A day or two away from harvesting our first Chardonnay of 2011 on Hamilton Russell Vineyards, our team was proud to learn that our Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay 2009 was selected for the Sommelier Journal’s Top Releases of 2010 – a list compiled by their editors and writers and other leading professionals from around the world of their most memorable wines of 2010.
“For years I have been awed by this South African Chardonnay. It is consistent from vintage to vintage, but shows a strong sense of place and the maritime climate of Walker Bay. You can easily be convinced in a blind tasting that this is a white Burgundy of the Montrachet persuasion. Fresh, complex, full-bodied, and long, it offers notes of ripe stone fruits, butterscotch, roasted chestnuts, and a bit of oak, skating along on a board of acidity and minerality.” Patricia Savoie – New York
Our Chardonnay 2009 makes it onto the Sommelier’s Choice Wine List as one of only 5 Chardonnays from around the world.
A possible point of interest. This vintage (2011) will be the 30th vintage of Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay made on the Estate. A 1982 was made, but in miniscule quantities and it was not released. The first Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay to be released to the market was the 1983.
All the best and we hope to see you on Hamilton Russell Vineyards at some point soon!
