Directions
The wines of Ashbourne can be tasted at the Hamilton Russell Vineyards Tasting Room.
The journey takes about 1 ½ hours from Cape Town, and is approximately 120kms. Drive along the N2 National Road, past Somerset West, over Sir Lowry’s Pass, past Grabouw and over the Houwhoek Pass. At the bottom of this pass is the small village of Bot River, which is by-passed. Just past the village turn-off is a road well signposted on the left: R43 Hermanus. It is here that you leave the main N2 National Road. (This point is about 80kms from Cape Town). Take the R43 for about 30kms. This will take you past the villages of Hawston, Vermont and Onrust. At the third set of traffic lights (next to Engen Garage), turn left onto the R320 (the main road to Caledon from Hermanus). This is called the Hemel-en-Aarde Road for the duration of its course up the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, which ends at the watershed of the Onrust River. After 4,6kms you will reach the entrance of Hamilton Russell Vineyards on your right. The School House (office) is at the entrance of Hamilton Russell Vineyards. Follow the signs to the Cellar and Tasting Room.
