Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay 2008 – Best White Wine on Show at RMB WineX JHB 2009
Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay has again been voted Best White Wine on Show at the 2009 RMB WineX show in Johannesburg – the largest wine show in South Africa. This makes 5 years in a row that our Chardonnay has been the favourite white wine for the more than 16,000 visitors choosing between over 1000 wines.
We are particularly proud of our 2008, which won a Gold Medal at The Decanter World Wine Awards and the Classic Wine Trophy Awards. In addition, our 2008 was one of only three 5 star Chardonnays to date in WINE Magazine – i.e. since 1993 – and the highest scoring.
Critics recognised our Chardonnay’s excellence when a panel of 26 rated it Best South African White Wine with a track record for Grape in 2003.
The Trade recognised our Chardonnay’s international excellence when it was rated one of the Top 20 Chardonnays in the world in Harpers (UK) in 2001 – the only South African Chardonnay on the list.
But what is extremely important for us is what our Consumers think of our wine and winning Best White Wine on Show 5 years in a row in our biggest single market is particularly gratifying for our team!
It is also gratifying to see that local enthusiasts see high merit in – what is for the New World – an almost uniquely classically styled Chardonnay with a high level of minerality and lower than usual alcohol for the top-end. This supports our view that the top-end of the South African wine market is far more sophisticated than many believe it to be.
